Local privilege escalation via writable service binary
Published Nov 13, 2025 · Updated Nov 13, 2025
Incorrect default permissions in the Sonarr 4.0.15.2940 Windows service allow local users to gain service-account privileges via binary replacement. The ACL on C:\ProgramData\Sonarr\bin\Sonarr.Console.exe permits a low-privileged user to replace the executable that the service launches. Elevated execution requires the service to run under a highly privileged account and the replaced binary to run after a restart or reboot.
