Unauthenticated code execution via unrestricted image upload
Published Apr 30, 2026 · Updated Apr 30, 2026
Missing authentication in django-mdeditor 0.1.20 and earlier allows remote attackers to upload files through its image endpoint. The UploadView.post handler accepts editormd-image-file data without requiring authentication, validates only the filename extension, and preserves an unsafe supplied name. Code execution requires the host to serve uploaded content in an executable context; unsafe filenames also enable stored XSS when rendered.
