Authentication bypass via unverified ALB JWT signer
Published Feb 20, 2025 · Updated Feb 20, 2025
Weak authentication in HashiCorp Hermes before 0.5.0 allows remote attackers to bypass authentication via a crafted AWS ALB JWT. The Okta ALB verifier trusted the JWT kid-selected AWS regional key without confirming that its signer claim matched the configured load balancer. Exploitation requires direct network access to the Hermes application server and permits access as the forged identity.
