Subscriber-level ad placement modification via unchecked AJAX update
Published Feb 19, 2026 · Updated Feb 19, 2026
Authorization bypass in Advanced Ads 2.0.14 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter ad placements via an AJAX request. The placement_update_item function accepts placement_id and item_id from wp-admin/admin-ajax.php and updates the served ad or group without a nonce or advanced_ads_manage_placements capability check. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; the documented impact is limited to changing content assigned to existing placements.
