Repository content spoofing via ambiguous Git references

Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026

Reference confusion in affected GitLab CE/EE releases allows remote authenticated users to present inconsistent repository content. Git reference name resolution can select different tag or branch content for the web interface and repository downloads. An authenticated user must create a crafted repository and induce another user to view and download it, enabling content spoofing without reported confidentiality or availability impact.
