CVE-2025-12490Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated root code execution via SID list traversal

Published Nov 6, 2025 · Updated Nov 6, 2025

Path traversal in Netgate pfSense CE 2.8.1 with Suricata 7.0.8_3 allows remote authenticated users to create files as root. Suricata SID management stores a user-controlled list name and appends it to a temporary directory path without reducing it to a basename. Access to the pfSense web interface is required; a traversal name can place attacker-controlled content outside the intended directory and enable root-context code execution.
