CVE-2025-1244Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Shell command execution via unescaped man URI

Published Feb 12, 2025 · Updated Aug 16, 2026

Command injection in GNU Emacs 29.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute shell commands through a crafted website or redirected URL. url-man passes the URI filename to Man-getpage-in-background, which interpolates it into a shell command without escaping shell control characters. A user must cause Emacs to retrieve or render the attacker-controlled URI; resulting commands run with that user's authority.
