Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Oct 27, 2025 · Updated Oct 27, 2025
Unquoted service path in VeePN 1.6.0 through 1.6.2 allows local users to execute code with AVService privileges. The AVService ImagePath leaves C:\Program Files (x86)\VeePN\avservice\avservice.exe unquoted, so Windows can select an attacker-written executable from an earlier path token when the service starts. Exploitation requires local file-write access and a service restart and grants the service account's privileges.
