Unauthenticated capability reset via unguarded AJAX endpoint
Published Nov 4, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Missing authorization in Simple User Capabilities 1.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to reset any WordPress user's capabilities. The wp_ajax_nopriv_reset_capability AJAX endpoint performs the reset without checking the caller's capability or requiring authentication. Any network-reachable WordPress site with the plugin active exposes the operation, allowing attackers to alter another account's assigned permissions without logging in.
