Root command execution via unsanitized energymodes input
Published Nov 24, 2025 · Updated Nov 24, 2025
Command injection in Bjango iStat Menus 7.10.4 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root through its XPC daemon. The com.bjango.istatmenus.daemon processCommand:reply: method inserts user-controlled energymodes JSON values into a pmset command and passes the result to system() without validation. Any local process can connect because the XPC listener checks no code signature, entitlement, or bundle identifier, so an unprivileged account gains root execution.
