Root escalation via writable service configuration files
Published Oct 30, 2025 · Updated Oct 30, 2025
Incorrect permissions in Progress Flowmon 12 before 12.5.6 allow local users with flowmon SSH access to gain root privileges. Certain system configuration files are writable by the default flowmon account and are consumed during service initialization. Exploitation requires access to that appliance account; Progress has not named the affected files, and successful modification executes attacker-controlled configuration as root.
