Process crash via cyclic CMap reference
Published Oct 16, 2025 · Updated Oct 16, 2025
Uncontrolled recursion in Glyph & Cog Xpdf 4.05 and earlier allows local users to crash a process via a PDF with a cyclic CMap. The CMap parser follows UseCMap references without cycle detection, so a self-referential object triggers unbounded recursion until the stack overflows. Exploitation requires local processing of a crafted PDF and interrupts only the affected Xpdf process, with no reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
