Local objdump crash via unexpected debug kind
Published Oct 16, 2025 · Updated Oct 16, 2025
Denial of service in GNU Binutils 2.45 allows local users to crash objdump by processing an object file containing malformed debug data. In prdbg.c, tg_tag_type calls abort() when parsed debug data supplies an unexpected debug_kind value instead of returning failure. The trigger requires local execution of objdump against attacker-controlled input; the demonstrated consequence is termination of that objdump process.
