Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode wrappers
Published Oct 22, 2025 · Updated Oct 22, 2025
Stored XSS in Oboxmedia Ads 1.9.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through shortcode parameters. The oboxads-ad-widget shortcode emits its before_widget and after_widget wrapper values without sufficient sanitization or output escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient to persist a payload that executes in a visitor's browser whenever the injected page is opened.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
