Unauthenticated stored XSS via unprotected settings updates

Published Nov 4, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Stored XSS in Footnotes Made Easy 3.0.7 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject scripts through unauthenticated settings requests. The plugin's settings-processing path stores insufficiently sanitized values, and page rendering emits those settings without context-appropriate escaping. No WordPress account is required; stored payloads run in visitors' browsers when affected settings are rendered on a page.
