Classic buffer overflow in Rockwell Automation 5380/5480/5580 controller boot firmware before 1.072 allows remote attackers to halt controllers. Boot-firmware file processing performs a buffer copy on attacker-supplied invalid file data without checking the input size. Network access requires no authentication or user interaction, and successful exploitation leaves the device in a major non-recoverable fault state.
