CVE-2025-11579Network attack vector

Process crash via unrestricted RAR dictionary allocation

Published Oct 10, 2025 · Updated Dec 2, 2025

Denial of service in Nicholas Waples rardecode 2.0.1 through 2.1.1 allows attackers to crash a consuming process via a crafted RAR file. The packedFileReader.newArchiveFileFrom path accepts an archive header's window size without enforcing a safe dictionary limit, allowing excessive memory allocation. Triggering the flaw requires a consuming application to decode attacker-supplied RAR content; the resulting out-of-memory crash interrupts that application.
