Data corruption in Red Hat luksmeta on LUKS1 devices allows local users with root privileges to overwrite encrypted user data. The find_gap and overlap logic accepts metadata whose aligned end offset exceeds the gap between the LUKS1 header and encrypted payload. Exploitation requires root access and a LUKS1 device; oversized metadata irreversibly corrupts encrypted data, while LUKS2 devices are unaffected.
