Denial of service via unreleased linker allocation
Published Feb 10, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025
Memory leak in GNU Binutils ld 2.43 allows context-dependent attackers to interrupt linking via crafted linker input. Public records identify xmemdup in xmemdup.c as the allocation locus but do not disclose the input field or call path that leaves copied memory unreleased. A user must make ld process the input; repeated unreleased allocations consume linker memory until that process crashes or hangs, while confidentiality and integrity remain unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
