Link following in wonderwhy-er Desktop Commander MCP 0.2.0 through 0.2.13 allows local users to read or write files outside allowed directories. The isPathAllowed function in src/tools/filesystem.ts normalizes and prefix-checks a supplied path without resolving symlinks before file operations follow them. A local user must place a symlink inside an allowed directory; successful access uses the server process's file permissions.
