Unauthenticated backup disclosure via unprotected AJAX status
Published Oct 11, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Everest Themes Everest Backup 2.3.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to retrieve active backup file locations. The wp_ajax_nopriv_everest_process_status hook passes wp-content/ebwp-backups/.PROCSTAT contents to wp_send_json without authentication or a capability check. Exploitation requires a running backup job; the returned status reveals the randomized archive name needed to download the site backup without authentication.
