Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via arbitrary option writes
Published Nov 11, 2025 · Updated Nov 11, 2025
Missing authorization in Make Email Customizer for WooCommerce through 1.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to alter WordPress options. The save_meta and ec_save_option AJAX actions accept attacker-selected field_name and field_value parameters and write them as site options without a capability check or option allowlist. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to enable public registration, set the default role to Administrator, and create a new administrative account.
