Unauthenticated DHCPv4 crash via hostname assertion
Published Oct 29, 2025 · Updated Oct 29, 2025
Denial of service in Internet Systems Consortium Kea DHCP 3.0.1 and 3.1.1 through 3.1.2 allows remote attackers to crash kea-dhcp4. The DHCPv4 hostname-processing path handles crafted client option content under the affected character-replacement settings and reaches an assertion instead of rejecting the value. Exploitation requires hostname-char-set to retain its default pattern, hostname-char-replacement to be empty, and ddns-qualifying-suffix to be nonempty; repeated packets interrupt DHCPv4 service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.0.1 <=3.0.1
- Affected versionversion=3.1.1 <=3.1.2
