Local privilege escalation via unauthenticated XPC connection
Published Sep 29, 2025 · Updated Sep 29, 2025
Missing authentication in iHongRen pptp-vpn 1.0 and 1.0.1 allows local users to invoke a privileged XPC helper through an untrusted connection. HelpTool/HelperTool.m's shouldAcceptNewConnection accepts incoming NSXPC connections without verifying the client's identity or authorization. Code execution as any local user is sufficient to reach the root helper's exported operations, enabling privilege escalation without user interaction.
