Heap-based buffer overflow in GNU Binutils 2.45 allows local users to crash the linker or execute code by linking a crafted ELF file. elf_swap_shdr_in converts and retains a section header that extends beyond the input file, allowing later linker matching to access invalid heap memory. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and control of linker input; the resulting corruption is confined to the linker process's security context.
