Local crash via malformed DWARF section
Published Sep 27, 2025 · Updated Sep 27, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in GNU Binutils 2.45 objdump allows local users to crash the utility via a crafted file containing malformed DWARF data. In binutils/objdump.c, dump_dwarf_section follows malformed DWARF section data without rejecting a read beyond the loaded section buffer. Reachability requires a local user to invoke objdump's DWARF display handling on the crafted object, and the bounded reported outcome is an objdump process crash.
