Local crash via unchecked internal-coordinate pointer
Published Sep 26, 2025 · Updated Sep 26, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in Open Babel 3.1.1 and earlier allows local users to crash processing via a crafted CACAO file. CacaoFormat::SetHilderbrandt assumes every OBAtom pointer in its internal-coordinate list is valid and calls OBAtom::GetIdx on a null entry. The crash requires processing the malicious file through obabel, the OBConversion API, or a language binding; no data disclosure or modification is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
