Authenticated service crash via malformed Unicode escape
Published Sep 25, 2025 · Updated Sep 25, 2025
Buffer overflow in MikroTik RouterOS 7 allows remote authenticated users to crash the REST service through a crafted JSON request. In libjson.so, parse_json_element mishandles a truncated Unicode escape, consumes parser state incorrectly, and scans beyond the supplied string for a closing quote. Exploitation requires REST API credentials and an enabled HTTP or HTTPS management service; the demonstrated consequence is a service crash, not confirmed code execution.
