CVE-2025-10823Public exploit

Local process crash via empty buffer pattern

Published Sep 22, 2025 · Updated Sep 23, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in Jens Axboe fio 3.41 and earlier allows local users to crash the process with a crafted job file. The str_buffer_pattern_cb callback passes a NULL value from an empty buffer_pattern option to strlen while parsing the file. Local command execution and control of a fio job file are required, and the demonstrated consequence is termination of the invoked fio process.
