Contributor settings modification via insufficient capability check
Published Nov 25, 2025 · Updated Nov 25, 2025
Missing authorization in Search Exclude 2.5.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter search-exclusion settings via REST. The Base::get_rest_permission() callback authorizes the settings route without an administrative capability check, allowing its update handler to accept post IDs for exclusion. Contributor-level access is sufficient; the demonstrated consequence is changing which posts WordPress omits from internal search results.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
