SYSTEM code execution via unauthenticated installer downloads
Published Sep 23, 2025 · Updated Sep 23, 2025
Improper certificate validation in CleverControl Employee Monitoring 11.5.1041.6 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute code as SYSTEM. The Windows MSI's instredist.cmd and srec.cmd scripts invoke curl.exe with --insecure, fetch external components, and launch them without authenticating the server. An attacker on the installation network path can replace either download, gaining administrative code execution when the installer runs.
