SYSTEM code execution via writable update directory
Published Sep 25, 2025 · Updated Sep 25, 2025
Local privilege escalation in iMonitor EAM 9.63.94 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM through its agent updater. The eamusbsrv64.exe service treats C:\sysupdate\finish.txt as an update trigger, moves every other user-writable file into its installation directory, and then loads an attacker-supplied wtsapi32.dll. Exploitation requires local file access and a service or system restart; the planted DLL then runs with NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges.
