User-level code execution via untrusted update certificate
Published Apr 28, 2026 · Updated Apr 29, 2026
Improper certificate validation in DeskTime Time Tracking App before 1.3.674 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute user-level code. Its updater accepts a hostname-matching certificate when the certificate chain has errors, then downloads and automatically installs a higher-version executable. A network-path position is required; the hourly update check needs no user interaction and runs the payload with the current user's privileges.
