Root shell access via privileged scripts and executables
Published Oct 28, 2025 · Updated Oct 28, 2025
Privilege escalation in Hitachi Energy TropOS 4th Gen 8.7.0.0 through 8.9.6.0 allows remote authenticated users to obtain a root shell. A vendor-undisclosed set of scripts and executables runs selected commands as root from an unprivileged shell after minor configuration changes enable unrestricted SSH. Access requires low privileges, an existing user-level shell, and an adjacent network position; successful exploitation grants unrestricted root control.
