Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked AJAX action
Published Oct 15, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025
Missing authorization in Bifröst 1.0.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create administrator accounts via an AJAX action. The ctl_create_link handler accepts requests from any logged-in WordPress user without a capability check and creates a new administrative user for a temporary login link. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to invoke the handler, obtain the link, and sign in with full WordPress administrative control.
