SYSTEM privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Sep 9, 2025 · Updated Jan 20, 2026
Unquoted service path handling in Sunshine for Windows 2025.122.141614 allows local users to execute code with SYSTEM privileges. The Windows installer registers the Sunshine service executable path without quotation marks, so Windows can execute an attacker-planted executable found earlier in the parsed path. Local access and write permission to a directory in that path are required; execution occurs during system startup or service restart and compromises the host.
