Application crash via stale static ranges
Published Feb 4, 2025 · Updated Apr 13, 2026
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird allows remote attackers to trigger a potentially exploitable crash via web content. Removing DOM nodes referenced by a static range lets AbstractRange::UnregisterClosestCommonInclusiveAncestor access freed heap memory. Reaching the flaw requires rendering attacker-controlled web content; the documented consequence is a crash, not confirmed code execution.
