Authenticated crash via malformed $group accumulator parameters
Published Sep 5, 2025 · Updated Sep 5, 2025
Improper input validation in specified MongoDB Server 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, and 8.1 releases allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod. The $group path mishandles additional parameters to certain accumulator functions and reaches a MONGO_verify assertion that terminates the process. A database user authorized to issue the crafted aggregation can repeatedly terminate the server and interrupt database service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=6.0 <6.0.25
- Affected versionversion=7.0 <7.0.22
- Affected versionversion=8.0 <8.0.12
