Code execution via misclassified non-file hyperlinks
Published Feb 25, 2025 · Updated Feb 25, 2025
Improper input validation in LibreOffice 24.8 before 24.8.5 allows attackers to execute Windows programs through activated hyperlinks. The hyperlink handler passes non-file URLs to ShellExecute after its path filter fails to recognize targets that Windows interprets as executable paths. A user must activate the crafted hyperlink, after which the attacker-chosen executable runs under that user's account.
