Improper exceptional-condition handling in Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR Agent 8.3-CE, 8.4.0, and 8.5.0 allows local users to disable protection. Palo Alto Networks has not disclosed the specific detection component or exceptional condition that causes the agent to stop enforcing protections. Windows non-administrative privileges suffice, no special configuration is required, and the shutdown leaves the endpoint exposed to subsequent malicious activity.
