Local privilege escalation via installation-dialog tapjacking
Published Aug 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Tapjacking in the Package Installer framework in Google Android 15 allows local users to escalate privileges through a dialog overlay. During app unarchiving, the installer failed to hide non-system overlays and left its restore control enabled while another window covered it. A low-privileged malicious app can obscure the confirmation without user interaction and gain the privileges conferred by installation.
