Browser crash via invalid selection range caching
Published Oct 14, 2024 · Updated Nov 6, 2024
Undefined behavior in Firefox before 131.0.3 allows remote attackers to crash the browser through a crafted webpage. SelectionNodeCache::MaybeCollect populates the selected-node cache by iterating an invalid StaticRange without first checking that the range is valid, which dereferences an invalid node during selected-text painting. Exploitation requires user interaction with attacker-controlled page content; the documented consequence is a browser crash, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
