CVE-2024-9780Public exploit

Application crash via uninitialized ITS dissector state

Published Oct 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2026

A null-pointer dereference in Wireshark 4.4.0's ITS dissector allows attackers to crash the application with malformed packet data. The dissect_dsrc_NodeOffsetPointXY function reads an uninitialized ITS private-data pointer while decoding a crafted CPMv1 offset point. Triggering it requires either injecting the malformed packet onto a monitored network or convincing an analyst to open a crafted capture file, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
