SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file creation
Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Link following in WTabletServicePro in Wacom Center 6.4.6.5001 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The privileged service follows an attacker-created symbolic link when creating a file, allowing the link target to control where that file is written. Low-privileged code execution on the Windows host is required; successful exploitation turns the service's file-creation authority into full SYSTEM-level code execution.
