Unauthenticated plugin installation via public REST route
Published Oct 11, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in ThemeHunk Hunk Companion 1.8.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to install and activate WordPress plugins. The register_routes method assigns __return_true as the permission_callback for POST /wp-json/hc/v1/themehunk-import, then tp_install passes attacker-controlled parameters to HUNK_COMPANION_SITES_BUILDER_SETUP. No account or user interaction is required; code execution requires installing and exploiting a separate vulnerable plugin.
