Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Oct 12, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Rescue Themes Rescue Shortcodes 2.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through rescue_tab attributes. The rescue_tab shortcode handler incorporates user-controlled attributes into generated tab markup without adequate sanitization or output escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload in a page, and the script runs in a visitor's browser whenever that page is opened.
