Content-process code execution via dangling animation pointer
Published Oct 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox, Firefox ESR, and Thunderbird allows remote attackers to execute code in the content process. AnimationTimeline::Tick can free an Animation object while the timeline still iterates its raw pointer, leaving AnimationTimeline::RemoveAnimation to manipulate a dangling pointer. A crafted web page triggers the flaw without further user interaction; Thunderbird mail reading disables scripting, so its exposure requires a browser-like context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <131.0.2
- Affected versionversion=unspecified <131.0.2
