SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file creation
Published May 9, 2025 · Updated May 9, 2025
Link-following in Avira Prime 1.1.96.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM through the System Speedup Service. The service follows an attacker-controlled symbolic link during a time-of-check to time-of-use window and creates a file at the substituted target. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on a Windows 10 x64 host and yields full SYSTEM-context execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
