Privilege escalation via installer DLL search order
Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
DLL search-order hijacking in Silicon Laboratories USBXpress Win98SE Development Kit 2.42 and earlier allows local users to execute code. The installer searches an uncontrolled path for a required DLL and loads an attacker-planted library instead of the intended copy. Exploitation requires an attacker-controlled library to be present when a user runs the installer, and the code executes with the installer's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
