CVE-2024-9498

Privilege escalation via installer DLL search order

Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

DLL search-order hijacking in Silicon Labs USBXpress SDK 6.7.3 and earlier allows local users to execute code via its Windows installer. The installer searches an uncontrolled path for required DLLs and loads an attacker-planted library instead of the intended dependency. Exploitation requires placing a crafted DLL in a preferred search location and persuading a user to run the installer; the code inherits the installer’s elevated privileges.
